Welcome to my new home.

Taj's Bedroom makeover

March 21, 2022

For Taj’s room I wanted to create an age-appropriate room that he can grow with. He’s still in-between the child-teen age so I’ve allowed for easy toy storage without the visual chaos by using a simple basket in the corner of his room to house his action figures and a few tubs in the top of his wardrobe for the bulky items. I’ve also had his bed custom made to include toy storage underneath (note: this is purely because this mumma can’t bear to part with the classic Thomas the tank engine wooden train track complete with every single wooden train ever produced that all my children have enjoyed and I’m saving for my grandkids one day ha ha)

He wouldn’t even know what’s under there to be honest!!!

I chose the Pottery barn furniture as it is in my eyes the next best thing since Boori nursery furniture (IYKYK) due to the simple fact of - if it gets “accidentally” hit by a flying buzz lightyear or matchbox car its quite forgiving ha ha.

I’ve started buying the bamboo 300 thread count sheets for my kids beds from Kmart in white as they don’t have the same price tag and are NEARLY as good as the only sheets, I buy from Adairs “World’s Softest Sheets” (they wash and wear, wash, and wear etc... And are SUPER COMFY) don’t be put off with white - never fade, can bleach and wash on hot. With good sheets on their beds, the nights not so rough when I end up in their bed if they’re sick or they end up in mine and I’m kicked out ha ha. I like to call this “musical beds” 😉

I'm not as fussy with the quality of the doona cover, I chose this one as its super soft and doesn’t crease too much. Not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this but I absolutely HATE ironing!!!!!!!! ill scrub and organise anything but the ironing…no thx!!!

The other quality item that is a must have apart from the sheets is definitely the doona insert. I only buy one type…ever!! It's actually David Jones brand and I only buy them when they are 40% off (which is regularly actually) they are warm in winter, cool in summer and literally the weight of a sheet.
My advice when planning a kid's bedroom is to keep the walls, curtains/shutters/blinds, main furniture, and carpet fairly neutral.

It's much easier to change the theme with linen, floor mat and a couple of cushions than moving all the furniture and repainting TRUST ME!!! I've learnt this about 10 times ha ha!!!!!

Please watch my video tutorial of the process i do regularly to keep my kid's rooms in check. Sometimes it's easier to watch someone else do it, get inspired once you’ve seen a few tips and tricks to make it easier, then off you go!!!

Oh, and I just want to add, take your time when re doing a room. You don’t have to do it all and once, I still add and change things as I go along if I see something i like or somethings not working organisation wise.
